Stillness and flow

Matteo Rosa

13.04.2016 -

Artist´s talk and workshop with Matteo Rosa. Matteo Rosa (b. 1978 in Italy) lives and works in Malmö. He trained at Edinburgh College of Art and Malmö Art Academy, where he graduated in 2005. N.B. Artist's talk in Swedish.

During this workshop drawing in its broader sense will be explored (it may be monochrome or in colour, two-dimensionally or in space), in conjunction to music. Participants will be encouraged to express their inner feelings and images, without pressure. The works created should function as an encounter between the space of silent awareness and the flow of sounds, images and phenomena. Participants may choose from a range of different creative materials.

At the core of my work is an interest in the subject of awareness. This brings me to a fascination for the interconnectedness of things, the play between form and formlessness, transience and stillness, imagination and presence. My practice explores art's potential to address forgotten or neglected aspects of the self, such as the primal feeling of being in one's own body at a time when we are exposed to the highest amount of external information in history. I employ various media, from drawing and painting to photography, video and installation. Matteo Rosa

Matteo Rosa’s previous solo exhibitions include Sjöbo Konsthall (2014), The Boiler Room, Oslo (2013), Fondazione Galleria Civica, Trento (2011), Galleri Arnstedt, Östra Karup (2011), Skånes Konstförening, Malmö (2010), E:ventGallery, London (2009), Krognoshuset, Lund (2007), Galleri Mors Mössa, Gothenburg (2007) and Galleri Ping-Pong, Malmö (2006).
