The next Berlin Biennale has been announced to take place between May 29 and August 3 2014 at different venues in the city of Berlin.

Juan A. Gaitán, the curator of the 8th Biennale, has invited musician Tarek Atoui, curator Natasha Ginwala, director of OPA Mexico Mariana Munguía, artist Olaf Nicolai and artist Danh Vo to collaborate with him and together they form the artistic team of next year's Berlin Biennale.

Gaitán (1973) is an independent writer and curator based in Mexico City and Berlin. His work is widely known and he has an interesting history of positions in various art venues around the world. Between 2009 and 2011 he has been a curator at Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and most recently he was adjunct professor in the Curatorial Practice Program at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco (USA).

His writings have been published in several journals, including Afterall, Arte al Dia, Art Nexus, Canadian Art, The Exhibitionist, Fillip, and Mousse.

The Berlin Biennale is organized by KW Institut for Contemporary Art and has since its first edition back in 1998 become a major art event, still growing. Located in the vibrant cultural scene of Berlin, the event has received an enthusiastic response from the audience. The Biennale is since its fourth edition supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation with 2.5 Million Euros per edition and considered nothing less than an ”outstanding cultural event”.
