Wael Toubaji & Cruz Cruz

22.02.2019 - 10.03.2019

TERRITORY explores the paradoxical complexity of sociographical borders, hereditary imitations and supremacy.
We are living in a world where the free-flow of natural resources, taken from economically vulnerable societies have more international rights than the humans living there.
With the current human migrations, the economically dominant countries have begun to adopt increased hostile measures against everything that could transgress their Status Quo. The structural violence fuelled by right-wing nationalist movements help to keep the "others" out by fostering the fears of those inside.
What is the meaning of the geographic boundaries in the middle of the internet age?

Cruz Cruz’s practice draws on sociological notions such as post-colonialism, social-constructivism and gender identity closely anchored to lived experiences, which creates a narrative of in- betweenness. Cruz works with the functionality of anxiety, to display an awkward obscure playfulness. The concept is the core of his work and can usually be translated into a broad range of media and methods, from installation to 3D animation, text, performance, sculpture and video.

Wael Toubaji is an artist interested in the political situation in the Middle East during the post- colonial era, the impact of borders and nationalism as a hybrid concept in the lands of the silk road. His narrative is inspired by personal experiences in exile. He mainly works with animation and moving image, combining the use of recycled materials, handcrafted aesthetics and digital media as a platform.
THE GUDBOI COMPANY is an audio-visual installation created by Cruz Cruz (Allan Cruz) that consist of a video piece together with a series of sculptures.
