PRESSEMEDDELELSE

Flâneuse de l'Europe is an audiowalk and a book made for The Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde by the artist Mette Kit Jensen as part of the project The Museum in the City.

Mette Kit Jensen works with and in city spaces and lately she has undertaken a more historical approach to the artist's relation to this particular space. Kit Jensen is interested in the concept of 'the flâneur' as artistic method: A flâneur is a drifter, a person who enjoys strolling the streets. The concept arose in the 1800's where the flâneur was decidedly male, but Mette Kit Jensen has set upon defining the female flâneur (aflâneuse) and project her into the present.

Flâneuse de l'Europe is an audio walk conceived through research the artist has carried out in several larger Europeen cities, such as Rome, Athens, Paris and Istanbul using sounds, impressions and narratives. The short stories are joined together in one long story, which connects to places in Roskilde. Local sound scapes recorded in Roskilde are mixed with global places and episodes in one total sound collage where proximity and flash backs alternate.

The exhibition is part of The Museum in the City - an international art project including Danish and international artists. The primary aim is to communicate contemporary art's many new and different modes of expression to a wider audience in different parts of Roskilde rather than being restricted to the museum space.
