Curating the (Un)becomings of Photography

Lars Willumeit

24.08.2016 -
FACEBOOKEVENT

This presentation will focus on the curatorial research, the exhibitions curated for Krakow Photomonth 2016 under theme of Crisis? What Crisis?!, but also giving insights into the theoretical and historical background as well as the artist inserts, that were published in the accompanying book under the title: The (Un)becomings of Photography.

So Curating the (Un)becomings of Photography hybridizes and expands on many of the underlying thematics of the festival exhibitions and as they were reflected within the dimensions of the printed page, however in this instance on the screen. The publication consists of a collection of essays and visual inserts, as well as an “anti-glossary” of photography and visual culture. These contributions come from a group of international scholars, curators, and practitioners of photography, most of them are specially commissioned or presented as first-time publications. The presentation thereby aims at making available a broad range of state-of-the-art rethinkings of the multifaceted nature of the photographic complex, presenting a broad range of artistic practices and research strategies that engage the “becomings” and “unbecomings” of photography, and its discursive and exhibitionary complex, in both images and words.

Featured artists: Discipula, #Dysturb, Paul Graham, Aneta Grzeszykowska, Klara Källström and Thobias Fäldt, Yann Mingard, Max Pinckers, Sputnik Photos, and Werker Magazine.
